Surah At-Takwir
The Overthrowing · Meccan · 29 Ayahs
1When the sun is wound up,
2when the stars scatter,
3when the mountains are set moving,
4when the pregnant camels are neglected,
5when the wild beasts are mustered,
6when the seas are set afire,
7when the souls are assorted,
8when the girl buried-alive will be asked
9for what sin she was killed.
10When the records [of deeds] are unfolded,
11when the sky is stripped off,
12when hell is set ablaze,
13when paradise is brought near,
14then a soul shall know what it has readied [for itself].
15So I swear by the stars that return,
16the comets,
17by the night as it approaches,
18by the dawn as it breathes:
19it is indeed the speech of a noble apostle,
20powerful and eminent with the Lord of the Throne,
21one who is obeyed and is trustworthy as well.
22Your companion is not crazy:
23certainly he saw him on the manifest horizon,
24and he is not miserly concerning the Unseen.
25And it is not the speech of an outcast Satan.
26So where are you going?
27It is just a reminder for all the nations,
28for those of you who wish to walk straight;
29but you will not wish unless it is wished by Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
