سُورَةُ الشَّمۡسِ
Surah Ash-Shams
The Sun · Meccan · 15 Ayahs
وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحٰىهَا ١ࣕۙ
1By the sun and her forenoon splendour,
وَالْقَمَرِ اِذَا تَلٰىهَا ٢ࣕۙ
2by the moon when he follows her,
وَالنَّهَارِ اِذَا جَلّٰىهَا ٣ࣕۙ
3by the day when it reveals her,
وَالَّيْلِ اِذَا يَغْشٰىهَا ٤ࣕۙ
4by the night when it covers her,
وَالسَّمَا࢜ءِ وَمَا بَنٰىهَا ٥ࣕۙ
5by the sky and Him who built it,
وَالْاَرْضِ وَمَا طَحٰىهَا ٦ࣕۙ
6by the earth and Him who spread it,
وَنَفْسٍ وَّمَا سَوّٰىهَا ٧ࣕۙ
7by the soul and Him who fashioned it,
فَاَلْهَمَهَا فُجُوْرَهَا وَتَقْوٰىهَا ٨ࣕۙ
8and inspired it with [discernment between] its virtues and vices:
قَدْ اَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكّٰىهَا ٩ࣕۙ
9one who purifies it is felicitous,
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسّٰىهَا ١٠ؕ
10and one who betrays it fails.
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُوْدُ بِطَغْوٰىهَا͏ٓ ١١ࣕۙ
11The [people of] Thamud denied [Allah’s signs] out of their rebellion,
اِذِ انۢ͏ْبَعَثَ اَشْقٰىهَا ١٢ࣕۙ
12when the most wretched of them rose up.
فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُوْلُ اللّٰهِ نَاقَةَ اللّٰهِ وَسُقْيٰهَا ١٣ؕ
13The apostle of Allah had told them, ‘This is Allah’s she-camel, let her drink!’
فَكَذَّبُوْهُ فَعَقَرُوْهَاࣕۙ فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِذَنۢ͏ْبِهِمْ فَسَوّٰىهَا ١٤ࣕۙ
14But they impugned him and hamstrung her. So their Lord took them unawares by night because of their sin, and levelled it.
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبٰهَا ١٥ࣖ
15And He does not fear its outcome.
