Surah Al-Lail

وَالَّيْلِ اِذَا يَغْشٰي ۝١ۙ

1By the night when it envelops,

وَالنَّهَارِ اِذَا تَجَلّٰي ۝٢ۙ

2by the day when it brightens,

وَمَا خَلَقَ الذَّكَرَ وَالْاُنْثٰٓي ۝٣ۙ

3by Him who created the male and the female:

اِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتّٰي ۝٤ؕ

4your endeavours are indeed diverse.

فَاَمَّا مَنْ اَعْطٰي وَاتَّقٰي ۝٥ۙ

5As for him who gives and is Godwary

وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنٰي ۝٦ۙ

6and confirms the best promise,

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهٗ لِلْيُسْرٰي ۝٧ؕ

7We will surely ease him toward facility.

وَاَمَّا مَنْۢ بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنٰي ۝٨ۙ

8But as for him, who is stingy and self-complacent,

وَكَذَّبَ بِالْحُسْنٰي ۝٩ۙ

9and denies the best promise,

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهٗ لِلْعُسْرٰي ۝١٠ؕ

10We will surely ease him toward hardship.

وَمَا يُغْنِيْ عَنْهُ مَالُهٗٓ اِذَا تَرَدّٰي ۝١١ؕ

11His wealth will not avail him when he perishes.

اِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدٰي ۝١٢ؗۖ

12Indeed guidance rests with Us,

وَاِنَّ لَنَا لَلْاٰخِرَةَ وَالْاُوْلٰي ۝١٣

13and to Us belong the world and the Hereafter.

فَاَنْذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًا تَلَظّٰي ۝١٤ۚ

14So I warn you of a blazing fire,

لَا يَصْلٰىهَا͏ٓ اِلَّا الْاَشْقَي ۝١٥ۙ

15which none shall enter except the most wretched [of persons]

الَّذِيْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰي ۝١٦ؕ

16—he who impugns [God’s prophets] and turns his back.

وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا الْاَتْقَي ۝١٧ۙ

17The Godwary [person] will be spared of that

الَّذِيْ يُو͏ٔ͏ْتِيْ مَالَهٗ يَتَزَكّٰي ۝١٨ۚ

18—he who gives his wealth to purify himself

وَمَا لِاَحَدٍ عِنْدَهٗ مِنْ نِّعْمَةٍ تُجْزٰٓي ۝١٩ۙ

19and does not expect any reward from anyone,

اِلَّا ابْتِغَا࢜ءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ الْاَعْلٰي ۝٢٠ۚ

20but seek only the pleasure of their Lord, the Most Exalted,

وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضٰي ۝٢١ࣖ

21and, surely, soon they will be well-pleased.
