Surah Al-Fajr
The Dawn · Meccan · 30 Ayahs
1By the Dawn,
2by the ten nights,
3by the Even and the Odd,
4by the night when it departs!
5Is there an oath in that for one possessing intellect?
6Have you not regarded how your Lord dealt with [the people of] ‘Ad,
7[and] Iram, [the city] of the pillars,
8the like of which was not created among cities,
9and [the people of] Thamud, who hollowed out the rocks in the valley,
10and Pharaoh, the impaler
11—those who rebelled [against Allah] in their cities
12and caused much corruption in them,
13so your Lord poured on them lashes of punishment.
14Indeed your Lord is in ambush.
15As for man, whenever his Lord tests him, and grants him honour, and blesses him, he says, ‘My Lord has honoured me.’
16But when He tests him and tightens for him his provision, he says, ‘My Lord has humiliated me.’
17No indeed! No, you do not honour the orphan,
18and do not urge the feeding of the needy.
19You eat the inheritance rapaciously,
20and love wealth with much fondness.
21No indeed! When the earth is levelled to a plain,
22and your Lord [’s edict] arrives with the angels in ranks,
23the day when hell is brought [near], man will take admonition on that day, but what will that admonition avail him?
24He will say, ‘Alas, had I sent ahead for my life [in the Hereafter]!’
25On that day none shall punish as He punishes,
26and none shall bind as He binds.
27‘O soul at peace!
28Return to your Lord, pleased and pleasing!
29Then enter among My servants,
30and enter My paradise!’
