Wednesday

Listen

    Bismillāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

Al-ḥamdu lillāhi alladhī jaʿala l-layla libāsan

All praise be to Allah Who appointed the night to be a garment,

    wa n-nawma subātan

    and sleep for a rest,

    wa jaʿala n-nahāra nushūran

and day He appointed for a rising!

Laka l-ḥamdu an baʿathtanī min marqadī

To You belongs praise, for You roused me from my sleep,

    wa law shi'ta jaʿaltahu sarmadan

    and had You willed, You would have made it everlasting;

    ḥamdan dā'iman lā yanqaṭiʿu abadan

an endless praise that will never be cut off

wa lā yuḥṣī lahu l-khalā'iqu ʿadadan

and whose number the creatures will never count!

Allāhumma laka l-ḥamdu an khalaqta fasawwayta

O Allah, to You belongs praise, for You created, then fashioned,

    wa qaddarta wa qaḍayta

    ordained and decreed,

    wa amatta wa aḥyayta

    gave death and bestowed life,

    wa amraḍta wa shafayta

    made sick and healed,

    wa ʿāfayta wa ablayta

    made well and afflicted,

    wa ʿalā l-ʿarshi stawayta

    established the Throne

    wa ʿalā l-mulki ḥtawayta

    and encompassed the Kingdom!

    adʿūka duʿā'a man ḍaʿufat wasīlatuhu

I supplicate You with the supplication of one whose mediation is weak,

    wa nqaṭaʿat ḥīlatuhu

whose stratagems have been cut off,

    wa qtaraba ajaluhu

    whose term has drawn near,

    wa tadānā fi d-dunyā amaluhu

whose expectation from this world has shrunk,

    wa shtaddat ilā raḥmatika fāqatuhu

whose neediness for Your mercy has intensified,

    wa ʿaẓumat litafrīṭihi ḥasratuhu

whose remorse for his neglect has become great,

    wa kathurat zallatuhu wa ʿathratuhu

whose slips and stumbles have become many,

    wa khaluṣat liwajhika tawbatuhu

and whose repentance is devoted sincerely to Your face.

    fa-ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin

    So, bless Muhammad,

    khātami n-nabiyyīna

    the Seal of the Prophets,

wa ʿalā ahli baytihi ṭ-ṭayyibīna ṭ-ṭāhirīn

and his Household, the good, the pure,

    wa rzuqnī shafāʿata muḥammadin

and provide me with the intercession of Muhammad,

    ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhi wa ālihi

Allah bless him and his Household,

    wa lā taḥrimnī ṣuḥbatahu

and deprive me not of his companionship!

    innaka anta arḥamu r-rāḥimīn

Surely, You are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

Allāhumma qḍi lī fi l-arbiʿā'i arbaʿan

O Allah, decree for me on Wednesday four things:

    ijʿal quwwatī fī ṭāʿatika

Induce me to be strong in obedience to You,

    wa nashāṭī fī ʿibādatika

to be active in worshiping You,

    wa raghbatī fī thawābika

to be desirous for Your reward,

wa zuhdī fīmā yūjibu lī alīma ʿiqābika

and to abstain from that which would make incumbent upon me Your painful punishment!

    innaka laṭīfun limā tashā'u

You are Gentle to whom You will!
