    Bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful

Al-ḥamdu lillāhi lladhī lam yush-hid aḥadan

Praise be to Allah Who allowed none to witness

    Ḥīna faṭara s-samāwāti wal-arḍ

when He created the heavens and the earth,

    Wa la-ttakhadha muʿīnan ḥīna bara'a n-nasamāt

and Who took no helper when He authored the spirits!

    Lam yushārak fi l-ilāhiyyah

He has no associate in Divinity

    Wa lam yuẓāhar fi l-waḥdāniyyah

    and no support in Unity.

    Kallati l-alsunu ʿan ghāyati ṣifatih

Tongues fall silent before the limit of describing Him,

    Wan-ḥasarati l-ʿuqūlu ʿan kunhi maʿrifatih

intellects fail before the core of knowing Him,

    Wa tawāḍaʿati l-jabābiratu li-haybatih

tyrants fall low in awe of Him,

    Wa ʿanati l-wujūhu li-khashyatih

faces are humbled in fear of Him,

    Wan-qāda kullu ʿaẓīmin li-ʿaẓamatih

and everything mighty yields to His mightiness!

    Fa-laka l-ḥamdu mutawātiran muttasiqan

So, to You belongs praise, again and again, well-measured,

    Wa mutawāliyan mustawsiqan

    continually, methodically!

    Wa ṣalawātuhu ʿalā rasūlihi abadan

And may His blessings be upon His Messenger endlessly,

    Wa salāmuhu dā'iman sarmadan

and His salutation (be upon him) everlastingly, eternally!

Allāhumma jʿal awwala yawmī hādhā ṣalāḥan

O Allah, (please) make the beginning of this day of mine righteousness,

    Wa awsaṭahu falāḥan

    its middle prosperity,

    Wa ākhirahu najāḥan

    and its end success!

Wa aʿūdhu bika min yawmin awwaluhu fazaʿ

I seek refuge in You from a day whose beginning is fright,

    Wa awsaṭuhu jazaʿ

    whose middle is anxiety,

    Wa ākhiruhu wajaʿ

    and whose end is pain!

Allāhumma innī astaghfiruka li-kulli nadhrin nadhartuh

O Allah, I pray forgiveness from You for every vow I have vowed,

    Wa li-kulli waʿdin waʿadtuh

    every promise I have made,

    Wa li-kulli ʿahdin ʿāhadtuh

and every pledge I have pledged

    Thumma lam afi laka bih

and then I failed to keep for You.

Wa as'aluka fī maẓālimi ʿibādika ʿindī

I ask You concerning the complaints of Your servants against me:

If there is a servant from among Your servants

Kānat lahu qibalī maẓlamatun ẓalamtuhā iyyāh

who has against me a complaint

This line and the next several unpack the nature of the complaint.

    Fī nafsihi aw fī ʿirḍih

because I have wronged him in respect to himself, his reputation,

Aw fī mālihi aw fī ahlihi wa waladih

his property, his wife or his child,

    Aw ghībatin ightabtuhu bihā

or because evil words I have spoken about him in his absence,

Aw taḥāmulin ʿalayhi bi-maylin aw hawan

an imposition upon him through inclination, caprice,

    Aw anafatin aw ḥamiyyah

    scorn, zeal,

    Aw riyā'in aw ʿaṣabiyyah

    false show, bigotry,

    Ghā'iban kāna aw shāhidan

whether he be absent or present,

    Wa ḥayyan kāna aw mayyitan

    alive or dead,

    Fa-qaṣurat yadī

such that my hand has fallen short

Wa ḍāqa wusʿī ʿan raddihā ilayh

and my capacity has been too narrow to make restitution to him

    Wat-taḥalluli minh

or to annul my obligation to him,

    Fa-as'aluka yā man yamliku l-ḥājāt

I ask You, O He who owns all objects of need,

An tuṣalliya ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

that You bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

Wa an turḍiyahu ʿannī bimā shi't

and make [the one I have wronged] satisfied with me in the manner that You will,

Wa tahaba lī min ʿindika raḥmah

and gift me mercy from You,

    Innahu lā tanquṣuka l-maghfirah

because, indeed, forgiveness decreases You not

    Yā man huwa l-ilāh

O He who is the God

    Wa lā yaghfiru dh-dhunūba siwāh

and none other than Whom grants forgiveness for sins!
