Hadith-e-Kisa (the Tradition of the Cloak), narrated from Sayyida Fatima al-Zahra (s.a.), recounts how the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) gathered Imam Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Husain (a.s.) under his Yemeni cloak and the Verse of Purification (Qur'an 33:33) was revealed about them. It is recited in gatherings for the relief of grief and the fulfilment of needs; begin and end with Salawat.
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Allahumma salli ala Muhammadin wa aali Muhammad
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
عَنْ فاطِمَةَ الزَّهْراءِ عَلَيْهَا اَلسلام بِنْتِ رَسُول ِاللّه صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ أَنَّها قالَتْ :
An Fatimataz-Zahra'i alaihas-salam binti Rasoolillahi sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi annaha qalat
It is narrated from Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her), the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family), that she said:
دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ أَبِي رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ فِي بَعْضِ الاْيَّامِ فَقالَ:
Dakhala alayya abi Rasoolullahi sallallahu alaihi wa aalihi fi ba'dil ayyami faqala
One day my father, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family), came to me and said:
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا فاطِمَةُ
Assalamu alaiki ya Fatimah
"Peace be upon you, O Fatima."
فَقُلْتُ: عَلَيْكَ السَّلامُ
Faqultu: alaikas-salam
I said: "And upon you be peace."
قالَ: إِنِّي أَجِدُ فِي بَدَنِي ضُعْفا
Qala: inni ajidu fi badani du'fa
He said: "I feel a weakness in my body."
فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: أُعِيذُكَ بِاللّهِ يَا أَبَتاهُ مِنَ الضُّعْفِ
Faqultu lahu: u'eedhuka billahi ya abatahu minad-du'f
I said to him: "O my father, I seek Allah's protection for you from weakness."
فَقَالَ: ”يَا فَاطِمَةُ! ٱئْتِينِي بِٱلْكِسَاءِ ٱلْيَمَانِيِّ فَغَطِّينِي بِهِ.
Faqala: ya Fatimatu i'tini bil-kisa'il-yamani faghattini bih
He said: "O Fatima, bring me the Yemeni cloak and cover me with it."
فَأَتَيْتُهُ بالْكِساءِ الْـيَمانِي فَغَطَّيْتُهُ بِهِ
Fa ataituhu bil-kisa'il-yamani faghattaituhu bih
So I brought him the Yemeni cloak and covered him with it.
وَصرْتُ أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ وَإِذا وَجْهُهُ يَتَلَأَلَؤُ
Wa sirtu anzuru ilaihi wa idha wajhuhu yatala'la'u
Then I looked at him, and behold, his face was glowing
كَأَنَّهُ الْبَدْرُ فِي لَيْلَة تَمامِهِ وَكَمالِهِ
Ka'annahul badru fi lailati tamamihi wa kamalih
like the full moon on the night of its fullness and perfection.
فَمَا كانَتْ إِلاّ ساعَةً وَإِذا بِوَلَدِيَ الْحَسَنِ عليه السلام قَدْ أَقْبَلَ
Fama kanat illa sa'atan wa idha biwaladiyal Hasani alaihis-salam qad aqbal
Only a short while had passed when my son Hasan (peace be upon him) came in
وَقَالَ: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا أُمَّاهُ
Wa qala: assalamu alaiki ya ummah
and said: "Peace be upon you, O mother."
فَقُلتُ: وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلامُ يَا قُرَّةَ عَيْنِي وَثَمَرَةَ فُؤَادِي
Faqultu: wa alaikas-salamu ya qurrata aini wa thamarata fu'adi
I said: "And upon you be peace, O light of my eyes and fruit of my heart."
فَقَالَ: يَا أُمَّاهُ إِنِّي أَشَمُّ عِنْدَكِ رَائِحَةً طَيِّبَةً
Faqala: ya ummahu inni ashummu indaki ra'ihatan tayyibah
He said: "O mother, I sense a pleasant fragrance here with you,
كَأَنَّهَا رَائِحَةُ جَدِّي رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ
Ka'annaha ra'ihatu jaddi Rasoolillahi sallallahu alaihi wa aalih
as if it were the fragrance of my grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family)."
فَقُلْتُ: نَعَمْ إِنَّ جَدَّكَ تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Faqultu: na'am inna jaddaka tahtal kisa'
I said: "Yes, your grandfather is under the cloak."
فَأَقْبَلَ الْحَسَنُ نَحْوَ الْكِسَاءِ وَقَالَ: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا جَدَّاهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ
Fa aqbalal Hasanu nahwal kisa'i wa qala: assalamu alaika ya jaddahu ya Rasoolallah
Hasan went towards the cloak and said: "Peace be upon you, O grandfather, O Messenger of Allah.
أَتَأْذَنُ لِي أَنْ أَدْخُلَ مَعَكَ تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Ata'dhanu li an adkhula ma'aka tahtal kisa'
Will you permit me to join you under the cloak?"
فَقَالَ: وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ يَا وَلَدِي وَيَا صَاحِبَ حَوْضِي
Faqala: wa alaikas-salamu ya waladi wa ya sahiba hawdi
He said: "And upon you be peace, O my son and master of my Pool (of Kawthar).
قَدْ أَذِنْتُ لَكَ
Qad adhintu lak
I have given you permission."
فَدَخَلَ مَعَهُ تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Fadakhala ma'ahu tahtal kisa'
So he entered with him under the cloak.
فَمَا كَانَتْ إِلَّا سَاعَةً وَإِذَا بِوَلَدِيَ الْحُسَيْنِ قَدْ أَقْبَلَ وَقَالَ:
Fama kanat illa sa'atan wa idha biwaladiyal Husaini qad aqbala wa qala
Only a short while had passed when my son Husain came in and said:
السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا أُمَّاهُ
Assalamu alaiki ya ummah
"Peace be upon you, O mother."
فَقُلْتُ: وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ يَا وَلَدِي وَيَا قُرَّةَ عَيْنِي وَثَمَرَةَ فُؤَادِي
Faqultu: wa alaikas-salamu ya waladi wa ya qurrata aini wa thamarata fu'adi
I said: "And upon you be peace, O my son, O light of my eyes and fruit of my heart."
فَقَالَ لِي: يَا أُمَّاهُ إِنِّي أَشَمُّ عِنْدَكِ رَائِحَةً طَيِّبَةً
Faqala li: ya ummahu inni ashummu indaki ra'ihatan tayyibah
He said to me: "O mother, I sense a pleasant fragrance here with you,
كَأَنَّهَا رَائِحَةُ جَدِّي رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ
Ka'annaha ra'ihatu jaddi Rasoolillahi sallallahu alaihi wa aalih
as if it were the fragrance of my grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family)."
فَقُلْتُ: نَعَمْ إِنَّ جَدَّكَ وَأَخَاكَ تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Faqultu: na'am inna jaddaka wa akhaka tahtal kisa'
I said: "Yes, your grandfather and your brother are under the cloak."
فَدَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ نَحْوَ الْكِسَاءِ
Fadanal Husainu nahwal kisa'
Husain drew near to the cloak
وَقَالَ: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا جَدَّاهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَنِ اخْتَارَهُ اللهُ
Wa qala: assalamu alaika ya jaddahu, assalamu alaika ya manikh-tarahullah
and said: "Peace be upon you, O grandfather. Peace be upon you, O chosen one of Allah.
أَتَأْذَنُ لِي أَنْ أَكُونَ مَعَكُمَا تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Ata'dhanu li an akuna ma'akuma tahtal kisa'
Will you permit me to be with you both under the cloak?"
فَقَالَ: وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ يَا وَلَدِي
Faqala: wa alaikas-salamu ya waladi
He said: "And upon you be peace, O my son
وَيَا شَافِعَ أُمَّتِي قَدْ أَذِنْتُ لَكَ
Wa ya shafi'a ummati qad adhintu lak
and O intercessor of my nation. I have given you permission."
فَدَخَلَ مَعَهُمَا تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Fadakhala ma'ahuma tahtal kisa'
So he entered with them both under the cloak.
فَأَقْبَلَ عِنْدَ ذٰلِكَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ
Fa aqbala inda dhalika Abul Hasani Aliyyubnu Abi Talib
Then Abul Hasan, Ali ibn Abi Talib, came
وَقَالَ: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللهِ
Wa qala: assalamu alaiki ya binta Rasoolillah
and said: "Peace be upon you, O daughter of the Messenger of Allah."
فَقُلْتُ: وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ يَا أَبَا الْحَسَنِ وَيَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Faqultu: wa alaikas-salamu ya Abal Hasani wa ya Amiral Mu'minin
I said: "And upon you be peace, O Abul Hasan, O Commander of the Faithful."
فَقَالَ: يَا فَاطِمَةُ إِنِّي أَشَمُّ عِنْدَكِ رَائِحَةً طَيِّبَةً
Faqala: ya Fatimatu inni ashummu indaki ra'ihatan tayyibah
He said: "O Fatima, I sense a pleasant fragrance here with you,
كَأَنَّهَا رَائِحَةُ أَخِي وَابْنِ عَمِّي رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ
Ka'annaha ra'ihatu akhi wabni ammi Rasoolillahi sallallahu alaihi wa aalih
as if it were the fragrance of my brother and cousin, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family)."
فَقُلْتُ: نَعَمْ هَا هُوَ مَعَ وَلَدَيْكَ تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Faqultu: na'am ha huwa ma'a waladaika tahtal kisa'
I said: "Yes, here he is with your two sons under the cloak."
فَأَقْبَلَ عَلِيٌّ نَحْوَ الْكِسَاءِ
Fa aqbala Aliyyun nahwal kisa'
Ali went towards the cloak
وَقَالَ: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ
Wa qala: assalamu alaika ya Rasoolallah
and said: "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah.
أَتَأْذَنُ لِي أَنْ أَكُونَ مَعَكُمْ تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Ata'dhanu li an akuna ma'akum tahtal kisa'
Will you permit me to be with you under the cloak?"
قَالَ لَهُ: وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ يَا أَخِي وَيَا وَصِيِّي
Qala lahu: wa alaikas-salamu ya akhi wa ya wasiyyi
He said to him: "And upon you be peace, O my brother, my successor,
وَخَلِيفَتِي وَصَاحِبَ لِوَائِي قَدْ أَذِنْتُ لَكَ
Wa khalifati wa sahiba liwa'i qad adhintu lak
my vicegerent and bearer of my standard. I have given you permission."
فَدَخَلَ عَلِيٌّ تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Fadakhala Aliyyun tahtal kisa'
So Ali entered under the cloak.
ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ نَحْوَ الْكِسَاءِ
Thumma ataitu nahwal kisa'
Then I went towards the cloak
وَقُلْتُ: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَتَاهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ
Wa qultu: assalamu alaika ya abatahu ya Rasoolallah
and said: "Peace be upon you, O my father, O Messenger of Allah.
أَتَأْذَنُ لِي أَنْ أَكُونَ مَعَكُمْ تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Ata'dhanu li an akuna ma'akum tahtal kisa'
Will you permit me to be with you under the cloak?"
قَالَ: وَعَلَيْكِ السَّلَامُ يَا بِنْتِي وَيَا بِضْعَتِي قَدْ أَذِنْتُ لَكِ
Qala: wa alaikis-salamu ya binti wa ya bid'ati qad adhintu laki
He said: "And upon you be peace, O my daughter, O part of me. I have given you permission."
فَدَخَلْتُ تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Fadakhaltu tahtal kisa'
So I entered under the cloak.
فَلَمَّا اكْتَمَلْنَا جَمِيعًا تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ أَخَذَ أَبِي رَسُولُ اللهِ بِطَرَفَيِ الْكِسَاءِ
Falammak-tamalna jami'an tahtal kisa'i akhadha abi Rasoolullahi bitarafayil kisa'
When we had all gathered under the cloak, my father, the Messenger of Allah, took hold of the two ends of the cloak
وَأَوْمَأَ بِيَدِهِ الْيُمْنَىٰ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ وَقَالَ:
Wa awma'a biyadihil yumna ilas-sama'i wa qala
and gestured with his right hand towards the heavens, and said:
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ هٰؤُلَاءِ أَهْلُ بَيْتِي وَخَاصَّتِي وَحَامَّتِي
Allahumma inna ha'ula'i ahlu baiti wa khassati wa hammati
"O Allah, these are the people of my Household, my chosen ones and my close kin.
لَحْمُهُمْ لَحْمِي وَدَمُهُمْ دَمِي
Lahmuhum lahmi wa damuhum dami
Their flesh is my flesh and their blood is my blood.
يُؤْلِمُنِي مَا يُؤْلِمُهُمْ
Yu'limuni ma yu'limuhum
Whatever pains them pains me,
وَيَحْزُنُنِي مَا يَحْزُنُهُمْ
Wa yahzununi ma yahzunuhum
and whatever grieves them grieves me.
أَنَا حَرْبٌ لِمَنْ حَارَبَهُمْ
Ana harbun liman harabahum
I am at war with whoever wars against them,
وَسِلْمٌ لِمَنْ سَالَمَهُمْ
Wa silmun liman salamahum
and at peace with whoever is at peace with them.
وَعَدُوٌّ لِمَنْ عَادَاهُمْ
Wa aduwwun liman adahum
I am an enemy to whoever is their enemy,
وَمُحِبٌّ لِمَنْ أَحَبَّهُمْ
Wa muhibbun liman ahabbahum
and I love whoever loves them.
إِنَّهُمْ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُمْ
Innahum minni wa ana minhum
Truly they are from me and I am from them.
فَاجْعَلْ صَلَوَاتِكَ وَبَرَكَاتِكَ وَرَحْمَتَكَ
Faj'al salawatika wa barakatika wa rahmataka
So bestow Your blessings, Your bounties, Your mercy,
وَغُفْرَانَكَ وَرِضْوَانَكَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَيْهِمْ
Wa ghufranaka wa ridwanaka alayya wa alaihim
Your forgiveness and Your good pleasure upon me and upon them,
وَأَذْهِبْ عَنْهُمُ الرِّجْسَ وَطَهِّرْهُمْ تَطْهِيرًا
Wa adhhib anhumur-rijsa wa tahhirhum tat-heera
and remove all impurity from them and purify them with a thorough purification."
فَقَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ:
Faqalallahu azza wa jall
Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said:
يَا مَلَائِكَتِي وَيَا سُكَّانَ سَمَاوَاتِي
Ya mala'ikati wa ya sukkana samawati
"O My angels and O dwellers of My heavens,
إِنِّي مَا خَلَقْتُ سَمَاءً مَبْنِيَّةً وَلَا أَرْضًا مَدْحِيَّةً وَلَا قَمَرًا مُنِيرًا
Inni ma khalaqtu sama'an mabniyyatan wa la ardan madhiyyatan wa la qamaran munira
I did not create the firmly built heaven, nor the outspread earth, nor the luminous moon,
وَلَا شَمْسًا مُضِيئَةً وَلَا فَلَكًا يَدُورُ وَلَا بَحْرًا يَجْرِي وَلَا فُلْكًا يَسْرِي
Wa la shamsan mudi'atan wa la falakan yaduru wa la bahran yajri wa la fulkan yasri
nor the shining sun, nor the revolving sphere, nor the flowing sea, nor the sailing ship,
إِلَّا فِي مَحَبَّةِ هٰؤُلَاءِ الْخَمْسَةِ الَّذِينَ هُمْ تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Illa fi mahabbati ha'ula'il khamsatil-ladhina hum tahtal kisa'
except for the love of these five who are under the cloak."
فَقَالَ الأَمِينُ جَبْرَائِيلُ: يَا رَبِّ وَمَنْ تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Faqalal Aminu Jibra'ilu: ya Rabbi wa man tahtal kisa'
The trusted Gabriel said: "O my Lord, who are the ones under the cloak?"
فَقَالَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ:
Faqala azza wa jall
He, the Mighty and Majestic, said:
هُمْ أَهْلُ بَيْتِ النُّبُوَّةِ وَمَعْدِنُ الرِّسَالَةِ
Hum ahlu baitin-nubuwwati wa ma'dinur-risalah
"They are the Household of Prophethood and the source of the Message.
هُمْ فَاطِمَةُ وَأَبُوهَا وَبَعْلُهَا وَبَنُوهَا
Hum Fatimatu wa abuha wa ba'luha wa banuha
They are Fatima, her father, her husband and her sons."
فَقَالَ جَبْرَائِيلُ: يَا رَبِّ أَتَأْذَنُ لِي أَنْ أَهْبِطَ إِلَى الأَرْضِ
Faqala Jibra'ilu: ya Rabbi ata'dhanu li an ahbita ilal ard
Gabriel said: "O my Lord, will You permit me to descend to the earth
لِأَكُونَ مَعَهُمْ سَادِسًا
Li akuna ma'ahum sadisa
so that I may be the sixth among them?"
فَقَالَ اللهُ: نَعَمْ قَدْ أَذِنْتُ لَكَ
Faqalallahu: na'am qad adhintu lak
Allah said: "Yes, I have given you permission."
فَهَبَطَ الأَمِينُ جَبْرَائِيلُ وَقَالَ: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ
Fahabatal Aminu Jibra'ilu wa qala: assalamu alaika ya Rasoolallah
So the trusted Gabriel descended and said: "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah.
الْعَلِيُّ الأَعْلَىٰ يُقْرِئُكَ السَّلَامَ وَيَخُصُّكَ بِالتَّحِيَّةِ وَالإِكْرَامِ
Al-Aliyyul A'la yuqri'ukas-salama wa yakhussuka bit-tahiyyati wal ikram
The Most High, the Most Exalted, sends you greetings of peace and singles you out with salutation and honour,
وَيَقُولُ لَكَ: وَعِزَّتِي وَجَلَالِي
Wa yaqulu laka: wa izzati wa jalali
and He says to you: By My Might and My Majesty,
إِنِّي مَا خَلَقْتُ سَمَاءً مَبْنِيَّةً
Inni ma khalaqtu sama'an mabniyyah
I did not create the firmly built heaven,
وَلَا أَرْضًا مَدْحِيَّةً وَلَا قَمَرًا مُنِيرًا وَلَا شَمْسًا مُضِيئَةً
Wa la ardan madhiyyatan wa la qamaran muniran wa la shamsan mudi'ah
nor the outspread earth, nor the luminous moon, nor the shining sun,
وَلَا فَلَكًا يَدُورُ وَلَا بَحْرًا يَجْرِي وَلَا فُلْكًا يَسْرِي
Wa la falakan yaduru wa la bahran yajri wa la fulkan yasri
nor the revolving sphere, nor the flowing sea, nor the sailing ship,
إِلَّا لِأَجْلِكُمْ وَمَحَبَّتِكُمْ
Illa li ajlikum wa mahabbatikum
except for your sake and for love of you.
وَقَدْ أَذِنَ لِي أَنْ أَدْخُلَ مَعَكُمْ
Wa qad adhina li an adkhula ma'akum
And He has permitted me to enter with you.
فَهَلْ تَأْذَنُ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ
Fahal ta'dhanu li ya Rasoolallah
So will you permit me, O Messenger of Allah?"
فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ: وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ يَا أَمِينَ وَحْيِ اللهِ
Faqala Rasoolullahi: wa alaikas-salamu ya amina wahyillah
The Messenger of Allah said: "And upon you be peace, O trusted bearer of Allah's revelation.
إِنَّهُ نَعَمْ قَدْ أَذِنْتُ لَكَ
Innahu na'am qad adhintu lak
Yes indeed, I have given you permission."
فَدَخَلَ جَبْرَائِيلُ مَعَنَا تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ
Fadakhala Jibra'ilu ma'ana tahtal kisa'
So Gabriel entered with us under the cloak
فَقَالَ لِأَبِي: إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ أَوْحَىٰ إِلَيْكُمْ يَقُولُ:
Faqala li abi: innallaha qad awha ilaikum yaqul
and said to my father: "Allah has sent revelation to you, saying:
إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ
Innama yuridullahu liyudh-hiba ankumur-rijsa
'Allah only desires to remove all impurity from you,
أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا
Ahlal baiti wa yutahhirakum tat-heera
O People of the House, and to purify you with a thorough purification.'"
فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ لِأَبِي: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنِي مَا لِجُلُوسِنَا
Faqala Aliyyun li abi: ya Rasoolallahi akhbirni ma lijulusina
Then Ali said to my father: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me, what merit does our sitting
هٰذَا تَحْتَ الْكِسَاءِ مِنَ الْفَضْلِ عِنْدَ اللهِ
Hadha tahtal kisa'i minal fadli indallah
here under the cloak hold in the sight of Allah?"
فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ:
Faqalan-Nabiyyu sallallahu alaihi wa aalih
The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said:
وَالَّذِي بَعَثَنِي بِالْحَقِّ نَبِيًّا
Walladhi ba'athani bil haqqi nabiyya
"By Him Who sent me as a Prophet with the truth
وَاصْطَفَانِي بِالرِّسَالَةِ نَجِيًّا
Wastafani bir-risalati najiyya
and chose me, as a confidant, for the Message:
مَا ذُكِرَ خَبَرُنَا هٰذَا فِي مَحْفِلٍ مِنْ مَحَافِلِ
Ma dhukira khabaruna hadha fi mahfilin min mahafili
whenever this account of ours is related in any gathering
أَهْلِ الأَرْضِ وَفِيهِ جَمْعٌ مِنْ شِيعَتِنَا وَمُحِبِّينَا
Ahlil ardi wa fihi jam'un min shi'atina wa muhibbina
of the people of the earth in which a group of our followers and lovers are present,
إِلَّا وَنَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الرَّحْمَةُ
Illa wa nazalat alaihimur-rahmah
mercy descends upon them,
وَحَفَّتْ بِهِمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَاسْتَغْفَرَتْ لَهُمْ إِلَىٰ أَنْ يَتَفَرَّقُوا
Wa haffat bihimul mala'ikatu wastaghfarat lahum ila an yatafarraqu
and the angels surround them and seek forgiveness for them until they disperse."
فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ: إِذًا وَاللهِ فُزْنَا وَفَازَ شِيعَتُنَا وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ
Faqala Aliyyun alaihis-salam: idhan wallahi fuzna wa faza shi'atuna wa Rabbil Ka'bah
Ali (peace be upon him) said: "Then, by Allah, we have triumphed, and our followers have triumphed, by the Lord of the Ka'bah!"
فَقَالَ أَبِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ:
Faqala abi Rasoolullahi sallallahu alaihi wa aalih
Then my father, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family), said:
يَا عَلِيُّ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَنِي بِالْحَقِّ نَبِيًّا
Ya Aliyyu walladhi ba'athani bil haqqi nabiyya
"O Ali, by Him Who sent me as a Prophet with the truth
وَاصْطَفَانِي بِالرِّسَالَةِ نَجِيًّا
Wastafani bir-risalati najiyya
and chose me, as a confidant, for the Message:
مَا ذُكِرَ خَبَرُنَا هٰذَا فِي مَحْفِلٍ مِنْ مَحَافِلِ أَهْلِ الأَرْضِ
Ma dhukira khabaruna hadha fi mahfilin min mahafili ahlil ard
whenever this account of ours is related in any gathering of the people of the earth
وَفِيهِ جَمْعٌ مِنْ شِيعَتِنَا وَمُحِبِّينَا
Wa fihi jam'un min shi'atina wa muhibbina
in which a group of our followers and lovers are present,
وَفِيهِمْ مَهْمُومٌ إِلَّا وَفَرَّجَ اللهُ هَمَّهُ
Wa fihim mahmumun illa wa farrajallahu hammah
and among them is one in anguish, but Allah relieves his anguish,
وَلَا مَغْمُومٌ إِلَّا وَكَشَفَ اللهُ غَمَّهُ
Wa la maghmumun illa wa kashafallahu ghammah
nor one in grief, but Allah dispels his grief,
وَلَا طَالِبُ حَاجَةٍ إِلَّا وَقَضَى اللهُ حَاجَتَهُ
Wa la talibu hajatin illa wa qadallahu hajatah
nor one seeking a need, but Allah fulfils his need."
فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ: إِذًا وَاللهِ فُزْنَا وَسُعِدْنَا وَكَذٰلِكَ شِيعَتُنَا
Faqala Aliyyun alaihis-salam: idhan wallahi fuzna wa su'idna wa kadhalika shi'atuna
Ali (peace be upon him) said: "Then, by Allah, we have triumphed and attained felicity, and so have our followers;
فَازُوا وَسُعِدُوا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ
Fazu wa su'idu fid-dunya wal akhirati wa Rabbil Ka'bah
they have triumphed and attained felicity in this world and the Hereafter, by the Lord of the Ka'bah!"
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Allahumma salli ala Muhammadin wa aali Muhammad
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
