Supplication of Amir al-Mu'minin (a.s.)

اَللّٰھُمَّ إنِّی أسْألُکَ الْاَمانَ یَوْمَ لَایَنْفَعُ مالٌ وَلَابَنُونَ إلَّامَنْ ٲَتَی اللہَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِیْمٍ

Allahumma inni as'aluka al-amana yawma la yanfa`u malun wa la banun illa man ata Allaha biqalbin salim

O Allah, I ask You for safety on the day when neither wealth nor sons will benefit, except one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.

وَأسْألُکَ الْاَمانَ یَوْمَ یَعَضُّ الظَّالِمُ عَلٰی یَدَیْہِ یَقُولُ یَالَیْتَنِی اتَّخَذْتُ مَعَ الرَّسُولِ سَبِیلاً

Wa as'aluka al-amana yawma ya`addu alththalimu `ala yadayhi yaqulu ya laytani ittakhadhtu ma`a alrrasuli sabilan

And I ask You for safety on the day when the wrongdoer will bite his hands, saying: 'Oh, would that I had taken a path with the Messenger!'

وأسْألُکَ الْاَمانَ یَوْمَ یُعْرَفُ الْمُجْرِمُونَ بِسِیْماھُمْ فَیُؤْخَذُ بِالنَّواصِی وَالْاَقْدامِ

Wa as'aluka al-amana yawma yu`rafu almujrimuna bisimahum fayu'khadhu bilnnawasi walaqdam

And I ask You for safety on the day when the guilty will be recognized by their marks, and will be seized by their forelocks and their feet.

وَأسْألُکَ الْاَمانَ یَوْمَ لَایَجْزِیْ والِدٌ عَنْ وَلَدِہِ وَلَا مَوْلُودٌ ھُوَ جازٍ عَنْ والِدِہِ شَیْئاً إنَّ وَعْدَ اﷲِ حَقٌّ

Wa as'aluka al-amana yawma la yajzi walidun `an waladihi wa la mawludun huwa jazin `an walidihi shay'an inna wa`da Allahi haqqun

And I ask You for safety on the day when no father shall avail his child, nor shall a child avail his father in anything; indeed Allah's promise is true.

وأسْألُکَ الْاَمانَ یَوْمَ لَایَنْفَعُ الظَّالِمِینَ مَعْذِرَتُھُمْ وَلَھُمُ اللَّعْنَۃُ وَلَھُمْ سُوْءُ الدَّارِ

Wa as'aluka al-amana yawma la yanfa`u alththalimina ma`dhiratuhum wa lahumu allla`natu wa lahum su'u alddari

And I ask You for safety on the day when the excuses of the wrongdoers will not benefit them, and for them will be the curse and the evil abode.

وأسْألُکَ الْاَمانَ یَوْمَ لَاتَمْلِکُ نَفْسٌ لِنَفْسٍ شَیْئاً وَالْاَمْرُ یَوْمَئِذٍ لِلہِ

Wa as'aluka al-amana yawma la tamliku nafsun linafsin shay'an walamru yawma'idhin lillahi

And I ask You for safety on the day when no soul shall have power to do anything for another soul, and the command that day will belong to Allah.

وأسْألُکَ الْاَمانَ یَوْمَ یَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ ٲَخِیہِ وَٲُمِّہِ وَٲَبِیہِ وَصاحِبَتِہِ وَبَنِیہِ لِکُلِّ امْرِیٍٔ مِنْھُمْ یَوْمَئِذٍ شَٲْنٌ یُغْنِیہِ

Wa as'aluka al-amana yawma yafirru almar'u min akhihi wa ummihi wa abihi wa sahibatihi wa banihi likulli imri'in minhum yawma'idhin sha'nun yughnihi

And I ask You for safety on the day when a man will flee from his brother, his mother, his father, his spouse, and his children — each of them on that day will have a matter enough to occupy him.

وَأسْألُکَ الْاَمانَ یَوْمَ یَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْیَفْتَدِی مِنْ عَذابِ یَوْمَئِذٍ بِبَنِیہِ وَصاحِبَتِہِ وَٲَخِیہِ وَفَصِیلَتِہِ الَّتِی تُؤْوِیہِ وَمَنْ فِی الْاَرْضِ جَمِیعاً ثُمَّ یُنْجِیہِ کَلَّا إنَّھا لَظیٰ نَزَّاعَةً لِلشَّویٰ

Wa as'aluka al-amana yawma yawaddu almujrimu law yaftadi min `adhabi yawma'idhin bibanihi wa sahibatihi wa akhihi wa fasilatihi allati tu'wihi wa man fi al-ardi jami`an thumma yunjihi kalla innaha latha nazza`atan lilshshawa

And I ask You for safety on the day when the guilty one will wish he could ransom himself from that day's punishment with his children, his spouse, his brother, his kin who sheltered him, and everyone on earth, if it would then save him — but no, it is a raging flame, stripping away the scalp.

مَوْلایَ یَامَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْمَوْلیٰ وَٲَنَا الْعَبْدُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْعَبْدَ إِلَّا الْمَوْلیٰ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-mawla wa ana al-`abdu, wa hal yarhamu al-`abda illa al-mawla

My Master, O my Master! You are the Master and I am the servant — and who shows mercy to the servant except the Master?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْمالِکُ وَٲَنَاالْمَمْلُوکُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْمَمْلُوکَ إِلَّا الْمالِکُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-maliku wa ana al-mamluku, wa hal yarhamu al-mamluka illa al-maliku

My Master, O my Master! You are the Owner and I am the owned — and who shows mercy to the owned except the Owner?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْعَزِیزُ وَٲَنَا الذَّلِیلُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الذَّلِیلَ إِلَّا الْعَزِیزُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-`azizu wa ana al-dhalilu, wa hal yarhamu al-dhalila illa al-`azizu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Mighty and I am the lowly — and who shows mercy to the lowly except the Mighty?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْخالِقُ وَٲَنَا الْمَخْلُوقُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْمَخْلُوقَ إِلَّا الْخالِقُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-khaliqu wa ana al-makhluqu, wa hal yarhamu al-makhluqa illa al-khaliqu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Creator and I am the created — and who shows mercy to the created except the Creator?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْعَظِیمُ وَٲَنَا الْحَقِیرُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْحَقِیرَ إِلَّا الْعَظِیمُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-`azimu wa ana al-haqiru, wa hal yarhamu al-haqira illa al-`azimu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Great and I am the insignificant — and who shows mercy to the insignificant except the Great?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْقَوِیُّ وَٲَنَا الضَّعِیفُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الضَّعِیفَ إِلَّا الْقَوِیُّ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-qawiyyu wa ana al-da`ifu, wa hal yarhamu al-da`ifa illa al-qawiyyu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Strong and I am the weak — and who shows mercy to the weak except the Strong?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْغَنِیُّ وَٲَ نَا الْفَقِیرُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْفَقِیرَ إِلَّا الْغَنِیُّ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-ghaniyyu wa ana al-faqiru, wa hal yarhamu al-faqira illa al-ghaniyyu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Rich and I am the poor — and who shows mercy to the poor except the Rich?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْمُعْطِی وَٲَنَا السَّائِلُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ السَّائِلَ إِلَّا الْمُعْطِی

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-mu`ti wa ana al-sa'ilu, wa hal yarhamu al-sa'ila illa al-mu`ti

My Master, O my Master! You are the Giver and I am the beggar — and who shows mercy to the beggar except the Giver?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْحَیُّ وَٲَنَا الْمَیِّتُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْمَیِّتَ إِلَّا الْحَیُّ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-hayyu wa ana al-mayyitu, wa hal yarhamu al-mayyita illa al-hayyu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Living and I am the dying — and who shows mercy to the dying except the Living?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْباقِی وَٲَنَا الْفانِی وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْفانِیَ إِلَّا الْباقِی

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-baqi wa ana al-fani, wa hal yarhamu al-fani illa al-baqi

My Master, O my Master! You are the Everlasting and I am the perishing — and who shows mercy to the perishing except the Everlasting?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الدَّائِمُ وَٲَنَا الزَّائِلُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الزَّائِلَ إِلَّا الدَّائِمُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-da'imu wa ana al-za'ilu, wa hal yarhamu al-za'ila illa al-da'imu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Permanent and I am the transient — and who shows mercy to the transient except the Permanent?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الرَّازِقُ وَٲَنَا الْمَرْزُوقُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْمَرْزُوقَ إِلَّا الرَّازِقُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-raziqu wa ana al-marzuqu, wa hal yarhamu al-marzuqa illa al-raziqu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Sustainer and I am the sustained — and who shows mercy to the sustained except the Sustainer?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْجَوادُ وَٲَنَا الْبَخِیلُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْبَخِیلَ اِلَّا الْجَوادُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-jawadu wa ana al-bakhilu, wa hal yarhamu al-bakhila illa al-jawadu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Generous and I am the miserly — and who shows mercy to the miserly except the Generous?

مَوْلایَ یَامَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْمُعافِی وَٲَنَا الْمُبْتَلیٰ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْمُبْتَلیٰ إِلَّا الْمُعافِی

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-mu`afi wa ana al-mubtala, wa hal yarhamu al-mubtala illa al-mu`afi

My Master, O my Master! You are the One Who grants well-being and I am the afflicted — and who shows mercy to the afflicted except the One Who grants well-being?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْکَبِیرُ وَٲَنَا الصَّغِیرُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الصَّغِیرَ إِلَّا الْکَبِیرُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-kabiru wa ana al-saghiru, wa hal yarhamu al-saghira illa al-kabiru

My Master, O my Master! You are the Great and I am the small — and who shows mercy to the small except the Great?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْھادِی وَٲَنَا الضَّالُّ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الضَّالَّ إِلَّا الْھادِی

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-hadi wa ana al-dallu, wa hal yarhamu al-dalla illa al-hadi

My Master, O my Master! You are the Guide and I am the misguided — and who shows mercy to the misguided except the Guide?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الرَّحْمٰنُ وَ ٲَنَا الْمَرْحُومُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْمَرْحُومَ إِلَّا الرَّحْمٰنُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-rahmanu wa ana al-marhumu, wa hal yarhamu al-marhuma illa al-rahmanu

My Master, O my Master! You are the All-Merciful and I am the one shown mercy — and who shows mercy to the one shown mercy except the All-Merciful?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ السُّلْطانُ وَٲَنَا الْمُمْتَحَنُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْمُمْتَحَنَ إِلَّا السُّلْطانُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-sultanu wa ana al-mumtahanu, wa hal yarhamu al-mumtahana illa al-sultanu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Sovereign and I am the tested — and who shows mercy to the tested except the Sovereign?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الدَّلِیلُ وَٲَنَا الْمُتَحَیِّرُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْمُتَحَیِّرَ إِلَّا الدَّلِیلُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-dalilu wa ana al-mutahayyiru, wa hal yarhamu al-mutahayyira illa al-dalilu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Guide and I am the bewildered — and who shows mercy to the bewildered except the Guide?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ وَٲَنَا الْمُذْنِبُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْمُذْنِبَ إِلَّا الْغَفُورُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-ghafuru wa ana al-mudhnibu, wa hal yarhamu al-mudhniba illa al-ghafuru

My Master, O my Master! You are the Forgiving and I am the sinner — and who shows mercy to the sinner except the Forgiving?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْغالِبُ وَٲَنَا الْمَغْلُوبُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْمَغْلُوبَ إِلَّا الْغالِبُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-ghalibu wa ana al-maghlubu, wa hal yarhamu al-maghluba illa al-ghalibu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Victorious and I am the overcome — and who shows mercy to the overcome except the Victorious?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الرَّبُّ وَٲَنَا الْمَرْبُوبُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْمَرْبُوبَ إِلَّا الرَّبُّ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-rabbu wa ana al-marbubu, wa hal yarhamu al-marbuba illa al-rabbu

My Master, O my Master! You are the Lord and I am the one lorded over — and who shows mercy to the one lorded over except the Lord?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ ٲَنْتَ الْمُتَکَبِّرُ وَٲَنَا الْخاشِعُ وَھَلْ یَرْحَمُ الْخاشِعَ إِلَّا الْمُتَکَبِّرُ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, anta al-mutakabbiru wa ana al-khashi`u, wa hal yarhamu al-khashi`a illa al-mutakabbiru

My Master, O my Master! You are the Supremely Great and I am the humble — and who shows mercy to the humble except the Supremely Great?

مَوْلایَ یَا مَوْلایَ اِرْحَمْنِی بِرَحْمَتِکَ، وَارْضَ عَنِّی بِجُودِکَ وَکَرَمِکَ وَفَضْلِکَ

Mawlaya ya Mawlaya, irhamni birahmatika, wa irda `anni bijudika wa karamika wa fadlika

My Master, O my Master! Have mercy on me with Your mercy, and be pleased with me through Your generosity, Your nobility, and Your favor,

یَا ذَا الْجُودِ وَالْاِحْسانِ وَالطَّوْلِ وَالْاِمْتِنانِ بِرَحْمَتِکَ یَا ٲَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِینَ۔

Ya dha al-judi wal-ihsani waltawli wal-imtinani birahmatika ya arhama alrrahimin

O Possessor of generosity, kindness, favor, and grace, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
